Middle East, North Africa, South Asia Student Center Our StoryThe Middle East, North Africa, South Asia (MENASA) was an initiative with the goal of creating a sixth cultural center to support the MENASA student community at PSU. The Initiative started in 2016 when it was included in the Cultural Resource Centers Five-Year Strategic Plan. This Initiative formally recognizes MENASA students (learn more about the MENASA region from Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) and their allies who are a critical mass in our spaces yet do not have dedicated services. While our other five cultural centers have demographic data to support their mission, the MENASA community does not. This presents a unique challenge in supporting these scholars.The goal of the MENASA Initiative was finally realized with the soft opening of the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia Student Center in the fall of 2021. The MENASA Student Center, like our other cultural centers, pivots on race and ethnicity. It is not a religious/spiritual center. Stay tuned for exciting news about MENASA's grand opening event! MENASA Initiative Report Hours of Operation Spring Term hours Monday-Thursday: 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. Friday: 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 228Location: 1825 SW Broadway Suite 228, Portland, OR 97201 (enter off of Broadway for a wheelchair accessible entrance)Closed on weekends and University closures COLLABORATIONS We seek to collaborate with students, community partners, university units, and student organizations. Collaborative events include the use of Cultural Resource Centers staff time, resources, and systems beyond our physical spaces.
