About This Course
Successful project managers must be adept at building trust, making and keeping agreements, encouraging productivity, and resolving conflict among project team members. In addition, identifying individual values and boundaries, establishing clear decision-making protocols, and using appropriate decision strategies are all project leadership requirements within the project team.

This interactive course covers the art of leadership in the project team and provides students with the leadership skills and tools needed to develop their own leadership style.

What You’ll Learn
Upon completion of this course, students will have gained the knowledge to:

  • Apply the urgent/important matrix to drive choices;
  • Learn conflict management techniques through application of the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument;
  • Define values and create project boundaries aligned with these values;
  • Negotiate win-win outcomes.

The Learning Environment
This interactive course is held in person at PSU’s Center for Executive and Professional Education in downtown Portland and typically combines lecture, discussion, and individual and group activities.

Instructor: Paul Spindel
 Paul Spindel specializes in management and leadership development. He has more than 18 years of human resources experience with Nike and Marriott International. Paul is a certified facilitator of the Myers-Briggs assessment and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument. He holds a BS in Communications from James Madison University and an MA in Organizational Behavior from the University of Maryland.

 

Instructor: Lori Emerick
Lori EmerickLori Emerick, principal of the Aspen Group, brings more than 20 years of organizational and leadership development expertise to her teaching work, including experience at Intel, Nike, and Kaiser Permanente. Lori’s roles have spanned human resources, leadership, diversity and inclusion, team facilitation, and process excellence. Lori earned an MBA in Human Resource Management from Seattle Pacific University.
