This fall, The Nonprofit Management Fund and Portland State University are partnering to offer a 4-month certification in nonprofit organization assessment. 

You won’t just LEARN about organization assessment, you will DO organization assessment. 

Program Background

We are a Milwaukee-Portland collaboration of experienced funders, practitioners, and academics specializing in nonprofit management. The Partners include The Nonprofit Management Fund, Management Cornerstones, Murn & Associates LLC, and Portland State University’s Institute for Nonprofit Management, with support from the Marquette University Trinity Fellows.

Our Goal

To advance the practice of organizational assessment for the purpose of empowering nonprofits to understand their organizational strengths and challenges and, through the assessment, create practical strategies for organizational advancement. Further, our goal is to offer the funding community a credible means of viewing the organization’s needs beyond program funding requests.'

  • Personalized one-on-one coaching sessions between select workshops

  • Participants awarded Nonprofit Organization Assessment certification

By the end of the program, consultants will be able to: 

  • Operate as an assessor consultant with a generalist skill set for OA2 assessment of the following 10 areas:
  • Governance and Structure
  • Leadership and Organizational Culture
  • Organizational Planning and Strategy
  • Accountability and Transparency
  • Financial Health
  • Fiscal Management & Resource Development
  • Communications
  • Program & Services: Planning, Administration and Evaluation
  • Advocacy and Lobbying
  • Interview, analyze key nonprofit organizational documents, conduct online surveys, apply schema charting, assemble information from multiple sources into an empowering report checklist.
  • Independently lead, implement and successfully present a report on organizational assessment.
  • Recognize organization capacity strengths, gaps and challenges and provide recommendations as they relate to the specific nonprofit.
