Latin

Ancient tome in Latin

Classics at PSU

For nearly two millenia, much of European literature, scholarship, diplomacy, and even aspects of everyday life, found expression in Latin. Studying Latin will open up to these worlds to you, and will reveal ways in which Latin still influences contemporary culture.

The study of Latin at Portland State equips you to begin reading unadapted, "free-range" Latin by the end of the second year. Courses in Roman culture and literature are also offered each year (taught in English).
