Tutoring Services

The Department of World Languages and Literatures offers drop-in tutoring for 100- and 200-level language students in person with some sessions online via Penji for languages that offer online and in person classes.
 
Tutoring is available for WLL language students in 100- and 200-level classes in the following languages: American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Persian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Vietnamese.

    TUTORS CAN HELP WITH:

    • Reviewing and clarifying concepts addressed in class or in the textbooks.
    • Clarifying the meaning of an assignment and making suggestions on how to start an assignment.
    • Practice speaking with you to help improve your real-time language use.

    Tutors Cannot Help With:

    • Tutors cannot help with exams or quizzes. 
    • Tutoring is not a substitute for class and tutors cannot do your homework for you.

      Tutor Session Expectations:

    • Come prepared with syllabus, book, worksheets and specific problems.
    • ​​​​Be sure you have attempted the work before you come.

      Tutor Availability:

    • Tutoring slots are drop in and first come first served.
    • Tutoring drop in sessions are generally 15 minutes. If there are no students waiting, the session may be longer.  
    • The schedule below is subject to change and hours are not guaranteed.

    How to Join an Online Tutoring Session via Penji:

    1. Check the schedule below to see each language's tutoring schedule
    2. Go to WLL Tutoring Services in Penji and click on Learn to access drop-in tutoring. NOTE, when you login check to make sure what community you are in! It should say "WLL Tutoring Services" in the top left-hand corner. If you see a different community (for example, "The Learning Center"), you will want to navigate to "WLL Tutoring Services" by selecting this community on the left-hand side menu. The specific text will read, "Switch to WLL Tutoring Services"
    3. Click on "View drop-in tutoring" and follow the prompts to set up a tutoring session in your desired language

    How to Join an In Person Tutoring Session:

    1. In person tutoring sessions are held in Fariborz Maseeh Hall (FMH).
    2. Check the schedule below to see each language's tutoring schedule and the room location. Cancellations will be indicated on the schedule below-- please check again before the start of your tutoring session to be notified of any last-minute scheduling changes.
    3. Tutoring sessions are all drop-in and there is no need to email the tutor for an appointment.
