Film at PSU
PSU offers a comprehensive film program that unites professional training in film production with a deep understanding of film theory and scholarship.
We’re a creative community of movie lovers, where faculty and students work together to unpack the cultural importance of films and create daring new work.
Students study all forms of the moving image, ranging from the silent-film era to present-day television and digital video production.
Meet the Faculty
Beyond the Classroom
Portland is a hub for film in the Northwest. It’s home to dozens of production companies, cultural institutions, and new media studios. That means it’s a great place to find internships and jobs—as well as a supportive creative community.
Our graduates pursue careers in film production, new media, criticism and scholarship, as well as other careers related to the film industry, like business, journalism and law.
Graduates of Film at Portland State have worked on such shows as “Portlandia“ and “Leverage”; on films including “Paranoid Park,” “Gone,” and the Twilight series; and for companies like Bunim-Murray Productions (“The Real World,” “Road Rules”).
Our graduates have gone on to PhD, MA, and MFA programs at institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Chicago, Brown University, Concordia University (Montreal), the University of New Orleans, and Florida State University.
