Testing Services Information for Students

Winter 2024 Term

We strongly encourage faculty and students to connect at the start of each term and to submit all exam support requests to Testing Services for the entire term by the end of Week 1, or as soon after that as possible.

Final Exams: All requests for Final Exams must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Please be sure to submit your exam request(s) by then if you'll need our support for one or more final exams.

All Other Exams: Support requests for all exams other than Finals must be submitted at least 7 business days before the desired exam appointment date due to the communication and coordination necessary among students, faculty, proctors, the DRC, and so forth.

Please do not request an exception to this as it is what allows us to serve everyone who needs our services.

PSU Testing Services provides accommodated testing support for PSU students registered with the Disability Resource Center (DRC), as well as for their instructors. We are committed to maintaining accessibility, integrity, and professionalism throughout all aspects of the test administration process. We operate in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Note that Testing Services is no longer a part of Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) as of 2020, nor are we a part of the DRC.


Not all exams are conducted at the Testing Center, so it is very important you check the details for each exam for the location.

An important note regarding the Distraction-Reduced Space accommodation: The “Distraction Reduced Space” accommodation does not mean a private room. A room at a third capacity or less is ideal, and up to half capacity can still qualify as distraction reduced if the the room is otherwise quiet with minimal activity and distractions. Please remember that Testing Services has in-ear earplugs, and over-the-ear noise muffling earmuffs. Please let us know if you would like to use either or both of these during your exam with us.

Q. I have testing accommodations and need to request support for a test. What should I do?

A. If the DRC Faculty Notification Email has indicated that any of your testing accommodations are best addressed in the Testing Center, you will need to complete the simple process outlined near the top of the Student Information on the Testing Process page.

An alternative to testing in the Testing Center would be taking your exam in Canvas. If you would like to test in Canvas, you may request to do so from your instructor. However, they may decline your request, in which case, you will need to test at the Testing Center.

If none of your testing accommodations listed in your DRC Faculty Notification Email requires testing in the Testing Center, you will need to first let your instructor know that you wish to activate your testing accommodations for the scheduled exams. They will then determine the best way to support you, whether that is by putting the exam into Canvas, proctoring the accommodated exam themselves or having a designee do so, or submitting a request with Testing Services to proctor your exam in a pop-up proctoring location on campus via the process outlined in the Testing Information for Faculty section of our website.

If your instructor is able to make arrangements to proctor your accommodated exam, please continue to work directly with them in order to get the accommodations you need for your test. If your instructor lets you know that you will need to request support from Testing Services, please complete the process outlined in the Student Information on the Testing Process page. As noted above, we will need each step of the process outlined there to be completed in order to consider your request.

Q. How do I contact Testing Services and when are you open?

A. The best, most efficient way to communicate with us is by email: TestingServices@pdx.edu. Please include enough detail so we are able to fully understand your request and follow up with you accordingly.

You may also reach us by phone by dialing (503) 725-4459 during business hours, which are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, except on days when the University is closed. We will respond to any missed calls or after-hours emails within two business days. If you leave a voicemail, please include enough detail so we are able to fully understand your request and follow up with you accordingly.
 
Q. Where is Testing Services located?

A. PSU Testing Services operates out of multiple locations on campus and in-person services are by appointment only. Please pay close attention to communications from us so that you'll know the location of each individual appointment.

Please note that not all exams are conducted at the Testing Center, so it is very important you check the details for each exam for the location.

Exams are conducted in locations around campus, especially during Midterms and Finals, so please pay close attention to where your exam is taking place each time, which we will communicate to you via email a day or two before your exam.

Important: You will need your PSU Student ID card in order to enter most buildings where testing takes place. For the Testing Center in UCB, you will need to scan your ID to get into the building and then again in the elevator to come up to the third floor.

Q. Can I schedule a make-up exam with Testing Services?

A. Starting Spring 2024, in an effort to expand our support for students and faculty, PSU Testing Services has resumed offering limited support for make-up exams for non-DRC registered students. This was discontinued during the heart of the pandemic and we have been keen to resume it as soon as operationally possible. This is now offered on a capacity basis as we do have to prioritize support for DRC-registered students and their instructors. You can submit a support request via our Make-Up Exam Support Request form. We will need your instructor to provide details about the exam via our Exam Guidance from Instructor form.

Q. Does Testing Services offer community testing or testing for non-accommodated PSU students?

A. We no longer provide community testing or services for the exams listed below. More information may be available via the links here:
