Meet the Academic Coaching Team

What is Academic Coaching?

Academic coaching is a free support service available to all PSU students. Students work with coaches to create measurable plans to meet their academic goals. Goals may address school/life balance, active learning and studying strategies, organization, communication skills, how to access resources, and more. Coaches can also serve as an accountability partner for students throughout their studies.

Chris (they/them) has returned to Portland State as a graduate student in the School of Social Work after completing an undergraduate degree in philosophy at PSU. Their goal in academic coaching is to build trust and provide resources in a constructive, judgment-free space. In that space students can identify barriers to their success while finding and growing into their strengths. Then they can decide what achievement will look like for them and how they can and want to get there.

Here's what some of our students have to say about their coaches:

“My coach has been excellent, I have been helped with so many really helpful pointers and study techniques on how to be a better student with ADHD and brain fog. This has made getting through these last two terms so much better.”

“My coach was so positive and helpful. I appreciated her patience and insight regarding my study issues.”

“My coach is so non-judgmental and personable. I don't feel judged if I fall off track with plans, and when things don't work for me, we reassess and work with what is best for my learning style and life.”
