Faculty Information on the Testing Process

IMPORTANT: If you have arrived here first, please start by reviewing the information on our Testing Information for Faculty page.

Location: Given that we operate out of multiple locations, and that our office staff are often moving about campus, in-person visits are by appointment only. This includes picking up completed exams. To make an appointment to stop by our offices, send an email to TestingServices@pdx.edu.

We strongly encourage faculty and students to connect at the start of each term and to submit all exam support requests to PSU Academic Testing Services (ATS) for the entire term by the end of Week 1, or as soon after that as possible.

Spring 2024 Deadlines

Final Exams: All requests for Final Exams must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM on Wednesday, May, 29th, 2024. Please be sure your students submit their exam request(s) no later than this if they'll need our support for one or more final exams. The further in advance these are submitted to us the better.

All Other Exams: Support requests for all other exams (other than Finals) must be submitted at least 7 business days before the desired exam appointment date due to the communication and coordination necessary among students, faculty, proctors, the DRC, and so forth. The further in advance these are submitted to us the better.

Please do not request an exception to this as it is what allows us to serve everyone who needs our services.

If you have any questions, please send an email to: TestingServices@pdx.edu

Please note that Academic Testing Services (ATS) is not part of the Disability Resource Center, and we are no longer part of SHAC (as of 2020). ATS is part of Academic Affairs, under the purview of Student Success.

Faculty will be notified of any students in their course who require testing accommodations via each student's DRC-generated Faculty Notification Email. If the email specifies that a student would be best served by testing with Academic Testing Services in our Adaptive Testing Suite, you can submit a request by following the simple process immediately below.

For all other DRC academic testing accommodations: if after considering all other options for providing accommodated testing within the department it is deemed not possible, faculty can submit a proctoring support request to ATS for consideration.

Exam Support Request Process

  1. Review the Instructor Accommodated Testing Agreement. Note that this is updated and needs to be reviewed once each term.

  2. Complete the Exam Guidance from Instructor form. It is important to note that this should be filled out in full and submitted for each exam in each class. Please do not include guidance for multiple exams (i.e. midterm and final) in the same form submission.

  3. Let your student(s) know you have submitted Exam Guidance to Academic Testing Services and encourage them to submit a Student Accommodated Exam Request for each exam, if they have not already done so.

Note that a student will not be able to complete a request to test with ATS unless we have Exam Guidance from Instructor on file for that exam since we need that information in order to schedule the exam.

The Exam Guidance from Instructor form (linked above) needs to be filled out and submitted once for each type of exam you will be using that term (midterms, finals, etc.).

For DRC students whose accommodations do not necessitate testing with ATS in our Adaptive Testing Suite, faculty are encouraged to proctor these accommodated exams themselves, or to have a designee within the department do so. With few exceptions, students are best served when they are able to take their exams within the department, in close proximity to department faculty and resources. The DRC provides detailed guidance for faculty on the various approaches and options available for making exams accessible for DRC students, thus eliminating the need to outsource this and send students outside their department for testing.
