Fellowships

Please see this flowchart to find out which fellowships you might consider applying for. You can explore more in-depth information on the individual fellowships and resources pages through the menu to your left.

Portland State has faculty representatives on campus who coordinate nationally recognized fellowship opportunities available to our outstanding students. National fellowships, scholarships, and awards fall into many categories, ranging from support for undergraduate or graduate education, to specific year-long internship programs, to study, research, or projects abroad. Unlike financial aid, most of these highly competitive awards are merit-based; need is not usually a factor. Students with financial aid needs should contact the Financial Aid office.

A number of these national fellowships require applicants, whether current students or alumni, to apply through their colleges or universities. Prospective applicants should read individual fellowship descriptions carefully as requirements vary. Serious students review the website thoroughly, commit significant time for preparation, utilize campus resources, and attend information sessions. These competitions are administered by different faculty advisers at Portland State.
