  1. Lisa K. Bates, urban studies and planning faculty, was appointed to The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Response and Resilient Recovery Strategy Group on COVID-19 and Rental Evictions. 
  2. Tina Burdsall, sociology faculty, was asked to serve as a member of the joint PSU-AAUP Faculty Senate Academic Freedom Working Group.
  3. William J. Comer, world languages and literatures faculty, was honored by the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL), which named his article “Measured Words: Quantifying Vocabulary Exposure in Beginning Russian” (published in the Slavic and East European Journal in 2020) Best Article.
  4. Julia Freybote, business faculty, has been invited to join the editorial board of the Journal of Property Research, an international journal of research — particularly applied research — into property investment and development. The journal welcomes original papers on any area of real estate investment and development, and is published by Taylor & Francis.
  5. Shirley Jackson, sociology faculty, was featured on three Portland news segments on Jan. 18: “Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr ” on KATU-2’s Afternoon Live; “Local Thought Leaders on MLK’s Legacy” on KGW; and “Dr. Shirley Jackson discusses parallels between the Civil Rights Movement and 2020 protests” on KGW.
  6. Shirley Jackson, sociology faculty, was elected to the position of vice president-elect of the Pacific Sociological Association. 
  7. Maura Kelly and Shirley Jackson, sociology faculty, are participating in the 2021 Academic Innovation Mini-Grant program for Inclusive Curriculum and Pedagogy.
  8. Maura Kelly, sociology faculty, joined the University Textbook Accessibility Ad Hoc Committee.
  9. Josè Padin, sociology faculty, was asked to serve as a member of the joint PSU-AAUP, Faculty Senate Academic Freedom Working Group.
  10. Aaron Roussell, sociology faculty, was asked to serve as a member and as secretary of the joint PSU-AAUP Faculty Senate Academic Freedom Working Group.
