Toulan faculty and alumni contribute to CUPA panels celebrating PSU as an urban university

Toulan School faculty and alumni led or participated in several panels in October and November as part of the “PSU as an Urban University,” which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Portland Downtown Plan in relation to current challenges facing PSU and downtown Portland. 

  • Professor Emeritus Ethan Seltzer moderated, and Professor Lisa Bates participated in, “Portland State, and the Urban University Idea: Shared Aspirations for the Next 50 Years”
  • Professor Jennifer Dill and Associate Professor Marisa Zapata participated in “Community Engaged Research: Co-Creating Knowledge to Serve”
  • Professor Jennifer Dill moderated, and alum André Lightsey-Walker (MURP 2020) participated in “The Future of Transportation in Downtown Portland: Inspirations from the 1972 Downtown Plan”
  • Professor Emeritus Carl Abbott participated in “Historical and Contemporary Perspectives on Governmental Reform in the Portland Metropolitan Area”
  • Alum Jason Franklin (MURP 1997) moderated, and Assistant Professor CNE Corbin and Adjunct Associate Professor Ellen Shoshkes participated in “PSU Campus Urban Design: The Educational District”
  • Associate Professor Matthew Gebhardt moderated, and alum Mary-Rain O’Meara (MURP 2009) participated in “Housing and Neighborhoods”
  • Associate Professor Greg Schrock moderated, and alums Lisa Abuaf (MURP 2004) and Jill Sherman (MUS 2008) participated in “Downtown Portland as a Commercial Center: A Look Forward”
