CLAS Grad Student Accolades: Community Engagement & Career Progression for Fall 2024

  1. Madi Lou Alexander (Sociology Ph.D.) began serving on the Pacific Sociological Association's Committee on the Status of LGBTQIA+ Persons in Sociology. They will serve on this committee for the upcoming PSA conference in San Francisco, as well as through 2026.
  2. Robin Bacior (Creative Writing MFA ‘23) was hired as the Arts & Culture Editor at Willamette Week.
  3. Jenna DePasquale (Sociology Ph.D.) was hired as an Assistant Teaching Professor in Mississippi State University's Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Social Work, starting in the summer of 2025.
  4. Alexandra Devon (Book Publishing MA), project manager of The Pacific Northwest Disaster Guide (published by student-run Ooligan Press), led a successful book launch in November 2024.
  5. Hannah Sean Ellefritz (Sociology Ph.D.) will teach MIT (Masters in Teaching) 510––Instruction for Secondary Teachers at Washington State University, Vancouver in Spring 2025.
  6. Barbara Imle (Sociology Ph.D. ‘22) was hired as the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities Manager of State Plan and Self-Advocacy.
  7. Nakeshia Knight Coyle (Sociology Ph.D. ‘24) convened 36 leaders, advocates and experts from across the state for the first-of-its-kind Oregon Symposium for Aging and Disabilities in August 2024. This event brought together individuals representing all facets of the systems supporting older adults and people with disabilities, and included representatives from AARP, Oregon Law Center, Age+ and SEIU along with community organizations, service utilizers, service providers, legislators, Area Agencies on Aging and academic researchers.
  8. Wynn Strange (Sociology Ph.D.) will be a Sociologists 4 Trans Justice co-chair for 2024-2025. Sociologists 4 Trans Justice was founded in 2016 as an independent initiative to advance transgender justice in and through sociology.
  9. Rachel Taub (Technical and Professional Writing MS) was hired as a Research Aide at the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility at Argonne National Laboratory. Building off the work she produced during her 2024 summer internship with the ALCF, Rachel will help develop a suite of technical communication products to support users through comprehensive digital and print documentation.
