At Portland State, we often talk about our commitment to "Let Knowledge Serve the City."
For the last 10 years, PSU has partnered with Oregon’s only medical school, Oregon Health & Science University, to meet that vital mission through the field of public health.
Public health is the invisible safety net that keeps our communities thriving. It isn't just about treating illness; it’s about the air we breathe, the equity of our food systems, and the structural changes required to ensure that a long, healthy life is a right for everyone — not a privilege for a few.
In a world facing complex challenges, the interdisciplinary work of public health provides the community centered and data-driven solutions we need to build a more resilient Portland.
In honor of Public Health Week and the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health’s 10th birthday, I encourage our campus community to check out their programming next week. Catch a lecture on biotechnology and infectious disease research, hear from the head of the Oregon Health Authority, or catch an open mic night dedicated to poetry and statistics!
The full lineup can be found online at the This is Public Health webpage.
