Dr. Max Nielsen-Pincus received his Ph.D. in 2007 in natural resource management from the University of Idaho’s Department of Forest Resources, and is an interdisciplinary scientist with a background covering both environmental and social sciences. Prior to joining the faculty of Environmental Science and Management, he was the director and coordinator of the Crooked River Watershed Council (2006-2008) in central Oregon and research faculty at the University of Oregon’s Institute for a Sustainable Environment (2008-2013). 

His research focuses on the human dimensions of environmental and natural resource management, with an emphasis on the rural-urban interface in the American West. His research also focuses on issues related to community responses to wildfire risks, management of watersheds that provide drinking water, and land use change in regions experiencing growth and development. Dr. Nielsen-Pincus teaches courses related to environmental and natural resource management, climate mitigation and adaptation, and wildfire at PSUs Department of Environmental Science and Management.
