As a biogeochemist and an ecosystem ecologist, I am broadly interested in 1) understanding ecosystem responses to environmental changes and 2) applying ecological knowledge to help inform environmental decisions, particularly with regard to restoration, sustainability, and managed ecosystems. In my research, I focus on the movement of carbon and nutrients (mainly nitrogen and phosphorus) and the production of greenhouse gases, in natural and human-modified ecosystems, including wetlands, streams, forests, agriculture, and urban ecosystems. I use approaches from ecosystem ecology and biogeochemistry in my work.
