Dr. Cat de Rivera received her PhD in 2000 in Biology with an emphasis on Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution from University of California, San Diego. She is an ecologist who works on both applied and basic research questions and interweaves her research, service on working groups on biological invasions and habitat connectivity, and coursework. Her research focuses on the ecology and behavior of marine and estuarine invertebrates, and the ecological impacts of roads. Specifically, she and her students and other collaborators examine how anthropogenic changes to habitat connectivity combine with biotic interactions and abiotic factors (temperature and salinity) to affect population growth, species distribution, and ecosystem function. She is excited to teach courses on biological invasions, marine ecology, and environmental analysis, among others.
