The Maseeh College Undergraduate Research & Mentoring Program (URMP)  funds undergraduate research for Maseeh College students. Students work closely with a faculty mentor, conduct research, and complete a research project. Students must be engineering or computer science undergraduate students in their sophomore or junior year, have a competitive academic record, and have a strong interest in research to apply. Women and underrepresented students are highly encouraged to apply. 

Application Process

Applications will include the following materials:

  • A list of three faculty research labs that you would be interested in working in. Consult this Faculty mentors page to find more details about projects and key skills needed to participate in the lab. Students are encouraged to reach out and meet with the faculty before the application deadline to learn more about their work.
  • Updated resume. Students can get assistance writing and updating resumes in the Student Career Services Center.
  • Application available here. Due March 15th.

If funded, URMP recipients are required to

  • Commit to the program for 10 weeks during the summer. Start and end dates may be negotiated with individual faculty mentors
  • Work ~40h/week during the summer term on the faculty research project
  • Participate in regular research meetings
  • Submit weekly progress reports
  • Complete presentations about their completed projects and fellowship experiences at a forum open to the PSU community. This forum usually takes place during the student welcome for the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science in the fall term.

Program Stipends (subject to change)

  • $6000 for a 10-week, full-time research experience.

Program eligibility

  • Open to freshmen, sophomore, or junior PSU students in good academic standing
  • US citizen or permanent resident (eligible to work in the United States)
  • Strong academic record
  • Interest in undergraduate research
  • Ability to work full-time in the summer on research projects
