If cost is holding you back from studying abroad, the Gilman Scholarship is worth exploring. This federal scholarship helps students with financial need cover the costs of studying or interning abroad. Pell Grant recipients automatically meet the financial eligibility requirement, but you do not need to receive a Pell Grant to apply if you can otherwise demonstrate financial need.
Gilman funding can also be used for short-term programs, including summer and faculty-led programs, so you don’t need to commit to a full quarter or semester abroad. The March 2027 application deadline covers programs taking place from summer 2027 through spring 2028, giving you plenty of time to plan ahead. An earlier October 1, 2026 deadline is available for programs beginning sooner.
