Student Program Assistant (Marketing & Outreach Focus)

Compensation: $16.30 per hour (Federal Work-Study students encouraged)
Hours: 10-19 hours per week, primarily Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Location: On-campus, Karl Miller Center, 6th floor (in-person required; occasional remote work as requested)

Position Summary

The Education Abroad Office seeks a creative and motivated student to serve as a key liaison for global opportunities. This role is designed for a student who is excited to blend marketing strategy with peer mentoring to help expand the reach of PSU's Education Abroad programs.

Primary Marketing & Outreach Responsibilities

  • Content Creation & Digital Outreach Strategy: Assist in the design, distribution and tracking of high-impact promotional materials, including print brochures and digital newsletters using tools like Canva Pro, Emma, Drupal/Syndication, PSU Connect.
  • Social Media Management: Collaborate on the creation and management of content for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to engage PSU students.
  • Public Speaking & Events: Lead information sessions and represent the office at classroom presentations, tabling events, and the annual Fall Fair during International Education Week (IEW).
  • Targeted Outreach: Support diversity and access initiatives, specifically reaching out to the 40% of education abroad participants who are Pell Grant recipients and other underrepresented groups.
  • Web & Data Management: Assist in maintenance and updates on the PSU Ed Abroad website as well as program pages using internal tracking tools to ensure prospective students have accurate, up-to-date information.

General Administrative & Peer Mentoring Duties

  • Serve as a peer mentor, providing empathetic and approachable guidance during drop-in hours to help students navigate overwhelming options.
  • Support the application and enrollment process via VikingsAbroad (TerraDotta).
  • Maintain professional communication via email and phone, following established workplace etiquette such as clear subject lines, professional greetings, and timely responses.
  • Assist in managing the Ed Abroad general email inbox.

Required Qualifications

  • Current full-time PSU student in good academic standing.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Availability for mandatory training in mid-September.
  • Experience in marketing, event coordination, and/or writing informational materials for organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous participation in a PSU-approved education abroad program, or other study abroad program (including international students with global experience).
  • Proficiency with Canva, Instagram, TikTok, Google Suite, and other design and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with VikingsAbroad (TerraDotta), Google Suite, and project management apps (Slack, Asana, Trello, etc.).
