Emily Ackerland brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role as the Director of the Disability Resource Center (DRC). A first-generation student with a BA in English from Lewis-Clark State College and an M.Ed in Adult and Higher Education from Western Washington University, Emily is well-equipped to lead the DRC as they work to support disabled students across campus.
Before joining Portland State University, Emily worked as the Assistant Director of the Disability Access Center at Western Washington University. In this role, she demonstrated her dedication to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for students with disabilities. Emily's commitment to equity and her understanding of the unique challenges faced by disabled students in higher education motivate her service to the community.
In her free time, Emily enjoys exploring the vibrant city of Portland, reading, writing, coffee, chocolate, and spending time with her family. She is thrilled to join the PSU community.
