Teaching Assistantship Information
The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering hires Graduate Teaching Assistants (TA) to serve as support for various courses and labs throughout the Academic Year. Each TA position comes with a stipend and tuition/fee remission, as outlined by the Graduate Employees Union Collective Bargaining Agreement. Most appointments will be at .30 FTE, which equals about 12 hours/week of work.
MME Graduate TA Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for an appointment as a TA, the applicant must: (a) be a currently admitted graduate student to the university and department, (b) have completed a minimum one term in an MME graduate degree program, (c) be in good academic standing, and (d) be able to register for nine applicable graduate credits the term(s) of their assistantship, or a minimum of five applicable graduate credits if two terms from graduation.

Priority TA Funding and How to Apply
The goal for Priority TA Funding is to set students up with a clear plan for the full academic year, whether it be a commitment to one, two, or three TAships. You are invited to apply for fall, winter, and spring with one application during this window. Results, though not exact course assignments past fall term, will be shared by 8/1.
If you do not receive an academic year's worth of assignments, please do not be discouraged. The decisions are based on potential budget and class enrollment fluctuations, which affect the ability to commit to a specific number of TAs by August. Rather, we will also revisit the application during the winter and spring term windows to see if there is an opportunity for placement.
If you miss the Priority TA Funding window and still complete the application in full, you will be considered for winter and spring term placement, only. Each deadline is a hard deadline. Students will need to login to their PDX gmail accounts to access the form.
