Course Information

Students should become familiar with the PSU Schedule, where class schedules for upcoming terms are posted. Students can also find information about which terms classes are scheduled to be offered for the coming academic year on the PSU Course Projection Guide (CPG). Not sure when to register? Use the PSU Academic Calendar which details important dates for each term, including course add and drop deadlines, final exams week, and more! Transfer students can check course equivalencies for classes taken at local institutions through the Transferology course equivalency database. More information regarding MME courses and policies can be found below. 


Grades

These are the minimum grades needed to pass a course within MME:

  • Selective Admission Courses:  C
  • Upper-Division Courses and non-selective admissions courses:  D-
  • Graduate Courses:  B-

All courses must be completed with a letter grade. P/NP grades are not accepted.


By Arrangement Information

If students would like to arrange an internship for credit, they must complete the ME 404/504 Co-op Packet prior to registering for ME 404/504 credits.  The MME Department accepts the following By Arrangement credits: 

  • ME/MSE 401/501:  Research (ME 501 credits are reserved for students pursuing the Project Track)
  • ME/MSE 404/504:  Cooperative/Internship
  • ME/MSE 405/505/605:  Reading and Conference
  • ME/MSE 406/506:  Project (ME 506 credits are reserved for students pursuing the Coursework-Only Track)
  • ME/MSE 503/603:  Thesis/Dissertation

Students registering for ME/MSE 503 credits must use the title "Thesis".  Students registering for ME 603 credits must use the title "Dissertation". Students registering for any other credit must use a title that reflects the project or course they are completing.

Students can register for these credits through the eBy-Arrangement (eBA) Dashboardprior to the start of term.  The total number of credits are determined by the faculty advisor, and all credits must be graded with the exception to ME 503/603.  These credits are graded at the time of Thesis/Dissertation Defense.

Please note: By Arrangement credits can not be used for courses that are in the Bulletin.


Electives

Undergraduate Electives

Undergraduate electives are any non-required ME-prefixed 400/500*-level courses. Elective offerings change each term. Students can see tentative offerings using the Course Projection Guide

Students are allowed one 4-credit elective outside of the MME Department, but within MCECS (CEE, ECE, CS, & ETM). 

*If students would like to take a 500-level elective, and are not admitted to the MME Bachelor's + Master's Pathway program, they will need to complete additional paperwork to have the course apply to the BSME degree. 

Graduate Electives

MSME Graduate electives are any non-required ME-prefixed 500/600-level courses. Elective offerings change each term. Students can see tentative offerings using the Course Projection Guide

Students are allowed two 4-credit electives outside of the MME Department, but within MCECS (CEE, ECE, CS, & ETM). Elective choices should be discussed with the assigned student advisor to ensure alignment with degree and career goals.
