PSU & UO Portland FAQs

Use this as your guide to commonly asked questions. In this document you will find out what services are available, how to schedule an appointment, cost of services, the patient portal and more. 

PSU & UO Portland Partnership

For over a decade, PSU’s Center for Student Health & Counseling (SHAC) has partnered with the University of Oregon to provide accessible health, counseling, and dental services to their Portland-based students. SHAC provides a dedicated staff member to coordinate student services, help UO Portland students navigate the PSU system, and ensures quality services to UO Portland students. SHAC is conveniently located to the UO Portland campus, and is accessible by Max light-rail or bus.


 

Cost of Services

Most office visits at SHAC are covered by the University of Oregon (UO) Student Health Fee paid each term. There are additional fees for, but not limited to, prescriptions or over-the-counter medicines, durable medical equipment, diagnostic labs or x-rays, immunizations or injectables, procedures, contraception/devices, acupuncture, and dental services.

Initiating Services

To initiate services, please call SHAC to make an appointment, and notify the scheduler you are a UO student. You will need to arrive early for your first visit so the front desk can provide you access to SHAC's Patient Portal.

Paying for Services

A PSU account is created for each UO student. Services not covered by the UO Student Health Fee (including, but not limited to prescriptions, durable medical equipment, labs, x-rays, immunizations, procedures, contraception/devices, acupuncture, dental services) will be billed to that PSU account. If a student has private insurance, they can request a statement to submit to their private insurer for possible payment. For more information on costs or billing visit the SHAC Billings webpage.

Setting up CASHNet

UO Portland students can access CASHNet, PSU's online payment portal, by first calling PSU Student Financial Services to request access. More information about student payment obligations can be found on the PSU Student Financial Services website.

Dedicated SHAC Staff Member

SHAC provides a dedicated staff member to coordinate student services, help UO Portland students navigate the PSU system, and ensures quality services to UO Portland students. Are you a UO Portland student who purchased the UO Student Health Insurance Plan (UOSHIP)?

Did you know that when you use the following services at SHAC, they are reimbursed to you at 100%*?  

  • Acupuncture (limited to 4 visits per term)
  • Birth Control
  • Vaccines
  • Covid Testing
  • ADHD Testing
  • Labs/Screenings that are done in-house at SHAC (i.e. pregnancy, rapid strep, covid test, rapid HIV, etc.)
  • Imaging that is done in-house at SHAC
  • EKG
  • Colposcopy/Biopsy
  • Dental: Only impacted wisdom teeth removal is covered on SHIP, no other dental services are covered.

Labs and Xray done outside of SHAC are NOT covered at 100% and you are subject to deductible and coinsurance of your UOSHIP.  Contact UO insurance team for questions.

*Your student account will be billed for any SHAC expenses. SHAC’s Insurance Coordinator will be able to help you get reimbursed for eligible SHAC expenses. Please email insurancehelp@pdx.edu.
