Domestic Student Health Insurance

STATUS: THE SPRING WAIVER PERIOD IS CLOSED

If you missed the Spring Waiver Deadline visit the Missed Waiver Appeal information page for due dates and criteria.

Remember, students do one waiver per academic year.  All students who attend PSU in Fall 2024 ,will need to do one new waiver for the 2024-25 academic year.  Messaging will go out starting in August 2024.

Student Health Insurance Requirement & Eligibility

Insurance Requirement

PSU requires that all domestic students enrolled in five credits* or more per term maintain comprehensive health insurance to ensure that students stay healthy and in the classroom. The Student Health Insurance Plan is major medical health insurance providing preventative, routine, and specialized health benefits. Those who have comparable outside health insurance can apply to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan. Students only need to do ONE waiver per academic year which starts each Fall term.

*in-load non-Restricted Differential Tuition credits

Non-eligible/Restricted Differential Tuition Credits

Some credits, such as those earned during study abroad, the School of Public Health with OHSU, and some continuing education credits are considered Restricted Differential Tuition credits, meaning they do not count toward the 5 credit hours triggering the Student Health Insurance Plan requirement, or count towards eligibility to use SHAC.

Automatic Enrollment

If you are covered by the PSU Student Health Insurance Plan, you will be enrolled automatically and charged $1256 (per term).  You will be charged this rate on your PSU student account each term, as long as you are taking five or more credit hours AND do not submit the health insurance waiver application.

Insurance Plan Eligibility

Students registered for five or more credits in a given term are eligible for the PSU Student Health Insurance Plan.
Students who drop below 5 credits by the end of the second week of the term, will no longer be eligible for the PSU Student Health Insurance Plan for that term.

If a student needs to drop all courses for medical reasons but wishes to continue to have the PSU Student Health Insurance Plan, they may contact the insurance team.
