TELUS Health (formerly called My Student Support Program or mySSP) will no longer be an option for 24/7 mental health support as of April 1st, 2024 due to the end of funding for this pilot mental health service.

What is Student Support @ PSU?

Call. Chat. Anytime. Anywhere. Connecting students with free, confidential mental health and wellbeing support conveniently available 24/7 via the Student Support app, telephone and web. 

SHAC Counseling Services expanded to ensure all students have access to a mental health counselor any time of day, from anywhere in the world. Student Support offers simple access to connect with a mental health counselor about anything.

All services at SHAC Counseling Services are confidential and free of charge for PSU students.

What can this app do for me? 

  • The Student Support app can help address common concerns such as: 
    • Adapting to a new campus culture, learning style or city
    • Being successful at school 
    • Relationships with friends and family 
    • Feelings of isolation, stress, worry, sadness, loneliness and much more
    • Frustration or uncertainty related to studies or post-graduation plans 
    • Creating balance between personal and academic priorities 

How do I get started? 

SHAC Counseling Services has partnered with Student Support to offer this confidential service. Students can access services through any of the following pathways:

  • Download the Student Support app from App Store or Google Play 
  • Visit the Student Support website 
    • When you first log on, look for Portland State University under “search for your school.” You’ll be asked to fill in your name, preferred language and basic informed consent for this service.

SHAC Counseling Services and Student Support are connected in an intentional, ongoing way to ensure Portland State students have streamlined and coordinated services.

What languages are available on Student Support?

Call and chat services are available in Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, French, and English.  

The app is ADA compliant, and TTY accessible.

What resources can be accessed? 

  • Free Confidential Services: Your use of Student Support  – including chats, calls, and conversations, is free and confidential – meaning your professors, family, friends, etc., will not know unless you tell them. 
  • Real-time chat support 24/7: Chat with a mental health counselor at your convenience 
  • Telephone support 24/7: Speak to a mental health counselor with a simple phone call 
  • Health assessments: Complete an anonymous assessment to get feedback on your emotional health 
  • Browse health & wellbeing content: Access articles, podcasts, infographics, and videos addressing a variety of wellbeing topics 
  • Access virtual fitness sessions: Sign up for FREE virtual fitness sessions available through LIFT 
  • Support in your language: Student Support content and support are available 24/7 in Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, French, and English.  

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be in crisis to reach out? No. Whenever you decide it may help to consult with a mental health counselor, we are here. 

How many credits do I need to be taking to use Student Support? All PSU students taking 1 or more credits can access My SSP.

Is there a limit to the number of times I can access Student Support? No. This service is unlimited in support to you. It is common for students to reach out multiple times looking for support on a variety of topics.

Can I use this if I am currently receiving therapy? Yes, this service is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and may be of help in between sessions.

I am a graduate student. Will this be relevant to my needs? Yes. Student Support mental health counselors work to identify where you are in life, and what you are working through in this moment.  People at any stage of their academic path, and any stage of life, may find it is helpful to have a phone call or chat session with a mental health counselor.

What if I am in crisis? Student Support has experienced mental health counselors who can assist you in a mental health emergency. There is no wrong place to start if you need crisis support. Call or chat 24/7 with Student Support.
