International Student Health Insurance

Visa, Government, and U.S. Employer

If you are at PSU on an F1 or J1 Visa, you may do an insurance waiver only if you meet one of these
situations and your insurance plan must include Medical Evacuation and Repatriation*:

Visa: You are on a J visa and have adequate health insurance that you purchase before you arrive in the US.

Government: Your government or embassy pays for your scholarship and provides you health insurance through a U.S. health insurance company.

U.S. Employer*: You have comparable insurance coverage through your, your spouse’s, or parent’s U.S. employer. Your employer insurance plan must have a deductible not higher than $2500, and cover at least 70% if you are hospitalized.

*If your employer does not have an Emergency Travel Assist/Medical Evacuation-Repatriation benefit,
you can purchase one through Academic Health Plans so you are compliant with PSU’s requirement for
international students.

It is required for a spouse or child on an F-2 or J-2 visa to carry appropriate health insurance. If you have a dependent on a different visa classification, we strongly recommend that they hold adequate health insurance.

Enrollment

Registration

Make sure you are registered for 1 or more credits per term. Your student insurance will be billed to your PSU student account.

Enroll Dependent

The cost is $1256 per term* for each family member and you will pay using a credit card. Visit Academic Health Plans for more information.

*Summer Only: The cost for Summer Only insurance is $917 and covers you from June 26, 2024 through Sept. 19, 2024. Students who were enrolled in student insurance and charged for Spring 2024 will NOT be charged the Summer Only insurance fee. Students enrolled in the plan for Spring term 2024 receive worldwide coverage through September 19th, 2024 regardless of summer classes or graduation.

Re-enroll Each Term

You must re-enroll your family members within the first two weeks of each term.
