Hydrology Certificate Requirements

The Graduate Certificate of Hydrology is designed to give students advanced training in hydrology, and leads to professional certification with the American Institute of Hydrology (AIH).

Application Deadlines

There are three department application deadlines and admission cycles per year. An application deadline of April 1st, allows for the following fall term start. An application deadline of October 1st, allows for the following winter term start. An application deadline of January 1st, allows for the following spring term start. 

Department admission requirements for this Graduate Certificate include 8 undergraduate credits each in physics, chemistry and calculus.

Please note, PDF copies of transcripts of college and university work are required for the online application. (Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the review process. Before you receive permission to register you will need to provide official transcripts.) For information on what an acceptable unofficial transcript is see the Graduate School requirements

Students must apply to be admitted into the Hydrology Certificate at least 4 weeks in advance of applying for graduation from the program.

Application process for current PSU Master's, Doctoral and Graduate Certificate students: 

Apply by submitting an application form with unofficial transcripts to the department. Applications may be submitted via email (esmoffice@pdx.edu) or in person (SRTC 218). In addition to this application, you will also need to submit a GO-19 to the department.  

Please note the term of admit for the Hydrology Certificate for applicants already admitted in to a PSU Master's, Doctoral, or Graduate Certificate program will be the term in which applicants are accepted in to the Hydrology Certificate program, submit a GO-19 to the department, and are registered for classes at PSU.

Program Completion

Once all coursework has been completed, students must submit the Application for Awarding a Graduate Certificate

*If you are a current student, please send a pdf of your DARS report, downloaded from myPSU; select graduate audit; CRTGR in Hydrology, and the relevant catalog year. Catalog Year: You cannot use a catalog year in which you were not admitted and enrolled and you cannot use a catalog year that is greater than 7 years old. More often than not, the student's term of admissions is the set of requirements that are followed. However, if a program change occurs soon after a student is admitted, the newer set of requirements may be followed. (The hydrology certificate had a program change effective Fall 2017.)
