By Arrangement Information
Students may wish to submit a by-arrangement request to register for:
- an internship for credit (ESM 401/501 or ESR 601 - Research or ESM 404/504 or ESR604 - Cooperative Education)
- Independent Study credits (ESM 402/502 or ESR 602)
- Thesis or Dissertation credits (ESM 403/503 or ESR 603)
- Reading and Conference (ESM 405/505 or ESR 605)
- Project (ESM 406/506 or ESR 606)
- Practicum (ESM 509)
Students can register for these credits through the eBy-Arrangement (eBA) Dashboard, prior to the end of the first week of term. Detailed instructions on submitting the electronic By-Arrangement request are available.
If a student is registering for By Arrangement for the first time, they must complete the CITI Responsible Conduct of Research Course before completing the eBA form. The course is free and takes about an hour to complete.
You can find the course you need by clicking “Register” in the top right corner, and then in the “Select Your Organization Affiliation” box start typing in Portland State and it should auto populate. From there you can follow the prompts and the Responsible Conduct of Research course should be available to you.
Once you have successfully completed the course, submit your completion certificate to the ESM office (by emailing esm_admin@pdx.edu) and visit eBy-Arrangement (eBA) Dashboard to submit your by-arrangement request. The department will then process your request.
The total number of credits are determined by the faculty advisor, and all credits must be graded with the exception of Thesis or Dissertation credits, which are graded at the time of Thesis/Dissertation Defense.
