SEOUL METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT (SMG) PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) Professional Development Program seeks to immerse leaders from South Korea to the US, for a year-long program where participants will be introduced to American culture and political practices.

Participants will have the opportunity to take customized program, including ESL sessions, special seminars on US local government, site visits to various agencies in Oregon, tailored research sessions, and final presentations.

The program aims at equipping participants with knowledge and skills on conditions that promote increased participation and success in their home country.

The SMG Professional Development Program goals are to promote a mutual understanding and lasting, mutually beneficial partnerships between key professionals and organizations in the United States (Portland, OR metro area) and their counterparts in Korea.

Furthermore, Korean mid-level professionals have an opportunity to gain knowledge of U.S. practices and techniques in their field of expertise, explore governance principles and practices in both public and civil society institutions in the United States, and gain a deeper understanding of U.S. society, culture, and people.

Lastly, U.S. professionals have the opportunity to share their professional expertise with Korean counterparts and gain a deeper understanding of professional practice, society, and culture in Korea.
