Student Testimonials
Many students struggle with challenging coursework or run into other obstacles that affect their grades at some point. Most are able to get back in Good Standing after a term or two. We know that there are many reasons students receive lower grades than anticipated, including personal, financial, health or family issues. Here are some stories students have shared with us:
“It's nice to know there are other students in the same struggle as I am right now. I currently plan to figure out my work schedule to make sure I'm not working so many hours, while trying to keep up with life and school all at the same time.”
“Getting that email about being on academic warning while all my friends were still in good standing made me feel outcasted and like it was something to be hidden, or something taboo. The workshop really made me feel like I shouldn’t be embarrassed and that I am not alone, this happens to a lot of students.”
"I was scared to ask for help, but my advisor was encouraging and helped me understand that a lot of students come back from this. They showed me different resources on campus that can help my situation. I plan to take advantage of those next term."
Financial Aid Implications
If you receive financial aid, you might also be placed into Warning Status for financial aid eligibility. This is a separate process and has its own requirements. You can check your financial aid status under the Finances tab in myPSU. If you need help understanding your status, schedule an appointment with a financial aid counselor. You may also need to meet with an academic advisor to develop a plan to get back in good standing.
Portland State University is committed to your success and looks forward to working with you to improve your academic standing.
