AI Compliance – How to prepare now to be compliant later

As AI becomes increasingly relevant, various regulators around the world have been concerned about its misuse. Some hot topics are automated decision-making, discrimination, rights violations, and IP violations. Among the trendsetters are the EU with the new EU AI Act, Qatar, Singapore, China and the United States.  In fact there are currently over 500 proposed AI regulations in the US.

So, the question arises: How do we leverage this new technology in a way that aligns with our values and stays compliant with both internal and external requirements?

What to do today:

• Understand the Universities’ position and policies when it comes to using AI. For a start, please consult https://www.pdx.edu/academic-affairs/ai page.
• Make sure your acquisition of AI tools follows the policies and procedures defined in the University vendor management process.
• Do not put PII (personally identifiable information) or other restricted/confidential information into a prompt or training set for an AI.
