VISION

Equity, innovation, and community partnership will shape the preparation of diverse professionals, elevate student and faculty success, and advance interdisciplinary scholarship in communication, cognition, and swallowing.

MISSION

The mission of the Department of Speech & Hearing Sciences is to educate and empower future professionals through innovative teaching and clinical training, to advance knowledge via cutting-edge research, and to provide outstanding, evidence-based clinical services to the community. We are committed to preparing our students as culturally responsive, socially engaged professionals and advocates who will partner with diverse communities to address speech, language, hearing, cognitive, and swallowing challenges.


Speech and Hearing Sciences Strategic Plan


Focus Area 1: Strengthen Academic and Clinical Excellence

 

  • Implement steps to reinforce systems of alignment between clinical practica and academic coursework through ongoing monitoring

Focus Area 2: Building sustainable staff and faculty workload management

  • Examine issues related to academic coursework, culminating experiences, and clinical training models through annual meetings with stakeholders.

Focus Area 3: Enhance Student Success, Support, & Diversity

  • Implement steps to support a diverse student population and enhance flexibility in student program completion through changes to curriculum and credits

 

Focus Area 4: Strengthen Community Partnerships & External Engagement

  • Strengthen and update community/alumni network with career setting information for alumni, a system for regular communication, and solicitations for different community-PSU collaboration roles.

 

Focus Area 5:  Ensure Financial Sustainability and Resource Growth

  • Identify sustainable funding models for supporting clinical training, and faculty and program development
