Welcome to the Oregon Scottish Rite Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic

We are a free of charge, donation-based clinic that offers speech and language intervention at Portland State University and online through telepractice. Our graduate student clinicians work directly with clients under the guidance of licensed, certified speech-language pathologists with specialized areas of practice and research. We look forward to partnering with you in reaching your communication goals.

How to Request Services

Please see below for a list of our services. We receive referrals from physicians, health professionals, speech-language pathologists, families, parents, private schools, and school districts. You also can request services without a professional referral by following these steps:

  1. Fill out the application.   *If you need help completing this form, please call 503-725-3070.
  2. We will notify you when your application is received, and you will be added to our wait list. 
  3. We will check in to share resources that we hope will be helpful while you remain on the wait list.

Speech and Articulation

For children with a variety of speech sound disorders, including childhood apraxia of speech. The focus is on improving speech intelligibility and increasing communicative competence, while building and maintaining client confidence and motivation. Apply for services >>

Aphasia Individual and Group Clinic

The focus of the clinic aligns with the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia and uses evidence-based therapy techniques and supportive, functional strategies to enhance language functions, social conversations, and life participation of individuals and group members with aphasia. Telepractice School Age

For school-age children and teens with language and literacy challenges. The focus is on setting goals for syntax, vocabulary, narratives, pragmatic, and literacy development. This clinic provides services to families who live in rural areas of Oregon to increase access and outreach for underserved communities. Apply for services >>

Gender Communication Lab

For gender diverse adults who wish to explore gender-affirming voice and communication techniques in a safe, guided, and supportive space. In addition to working on voice, breath, and resonance, techniques also include topics regarding language usage, pronunciation, word choice, discourse patterns, and intonation. Apply for services

Cleft and Craniofacial Clinic

For children and teens with cleft lip and/or palate or craniofacial differences who have speech or language concerns. A collaborative approach is taken to connect with your established cleft or craniofacial team. Goals are typically related to improving speech intelligibility and language skills. Apply for services >>

AAC Clinic

For children, teens, and adults who have significant speech or language concerns and require augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools and strategies.
