TEMPRR Keynote Dominique Morgan "The Power of Resilience and the Joy of Thriving - A Trans Road Map to Liberation"

Friday November 20th, 2020 2-3:30 pm

A Trans Road Map to Liberation-Often times the most marginalized individuals in our community are christened as resilient. This echo chamber where we are celebrated for surviving the oppressive systems that seek to harm us in our society. We are rewarded for being strong. Elevated because we are still here. But is that all? Is Surviving and Resilience  our only options in this life? The answer is no. There is a space that is more exclusive than the promo list for the latest Ivy Park drop. That place is called THRIVING. Thriving is a space where you cup runneth over. Where your capacity to pour into others won’t be based on how weak you feel at the end of the day. A place where generational trauma can be addressed and generational oppression can be dismantled. Y’all ready to walk with me nah? Okay. Grab your mask and let’s take a journey together.

Dominique Morgan (She/Her) is an award-winning artist, activist, and TEDx speaker. As the Executive Director of Black and Pink, the largest prison abolitionist organization in the United States, she works daily to dismantle the systems that perpetuate violence on LGBTQ/GNC people and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Partnering her lived experience of being impacted by mass incarceration (which included 18 months in solitary confinement), with a decade of change-making artistry, advocacy, and background in public health, she continues to work in spaces of sex education, radical self-care, and transformative youth development with intentions of dismantling the prison industrial complex and it’s impact on our communities. Ms. Morgan is a 2020 Ten Outstanding Young Americans Award recipient, NAACP Freedom Fighter Award recipient, and 2020 JM Kaplan Innovation Prize recipient. She is currently completing their capstone project for studies in the Georgetown University - System Involved LGBTQ Youth Scholar Program.
