JST Learning Outcomes

A. Students will gain mastery in the field of Judaic Studies by:

1. Gaining familiarity with major questions and terminology used in the field of Judaic Studies
2. Gaining exposure to a core of classic and foundational Jewish literary works
3. Gaining the ability to analyze a core of classic and foundational Jewish literary works
4. Attaining an in-depth understanding of Jewish culture from a variety of disciplinary perspectives
5. Attaining an in-depth understanding of Jewish history, religion, social and political formations, and culture in a variety of national and international contexts, alongside an appreciation of the diversity of the Jewish experience from antiquity to modernity
6. Attaining an in-depth understanding of Judaic culture and Jewish contributions to other cultures
7. Attaining an in-depth understanding of the encounter of Jews and Judaism with modernity
8. Attaining an in-depth understanding of the major centers of Jewish life and culture, including the United States, Israel, and Europe.
9. Attaining capability of high-level evaluation of Jewish culture from a variety of disciplinary perspectives
10. Attaining capability of high-level evaluation of Jewish history, religion, social and political formations, and culture in a variety of national and international contexts, alongside an appreciation of the diversity of the Jewish experience from antiquity to modernity

B. Students will develop critical thinking and communication skills by

1. Being exposed to a variety of different modes of inquiry and a wide range of diverse viewpoints, voices, and interpretations of history, culture, and society
2. Learning how to analyze an array of texts
3. Learning how to evaluate a multitude of viewpoints and the credibility of relevant information
4. Learning how to conceptualize and develop their own arguments and interpretations, both in oral and written format, using appropriate technologies.

1. Students will recognize and understand the rich and complex ways that group and individual inequalities and interactions impact self and society, as well as the diversity of world cultures.
2. Students will develop relevant skills to negotiate unfamiliar cultures in order successfully to bridge gaps and create significant intercultural and interpersonal linkages.

D. Students will engage in applied, contextual learning that shows the everyday relevance of theoretical knowledge and classroom-based skills and that links the conceptual to the practical.
