About the Senior Adult Learning Center

Since the 1970s, PSU has been a gateway for older adults to reignite their passion for learning. By enrolling through the Senior Adult Learning Center (SALC), Oregon residents who are 65 and older can audit up to 8 credit hours per term, year-round, without paying tuition*. Dive into subjects that excite you, from history and literature to music and languages, there is something for everyone!  Funded entirely by generous donations, SALC empowers lifelong learners to thrive. Are you ready to expand your mind and join a vibrant community? Explore our website to start your journey, and learn how you can support this incredible program.

*There is a one-time $25 fee to join SALC, and certain course-specific fees may apply. Course registration is contingent on instructor approval and space available.

  • SEPT 8TH - Fall registration begins for SALC auditors
    • Do not contact instructors before the registration start date. Please note that you may not receive a response right away because faculty contracts do not start until Sept. 15th. Please be patient.
  • SEPT 29TH - Fall classes begin
    • If you are trying to get registered for a full course, you may contact the instructor on this date to see if they will allow you to audit. SALC cannot override full classes until the term begins.

All important dates (including drop, add, and refund deadlines) are listed on the academic calendar: https://www.pdx.edu/registration/academic-calendar. Auditors are considered "non degree students" when referring to the academic calendar.

The SALC Account Hold

SALC Hold

All senior auditors have a hold placed on their PSU accounts and it does NOT require any action. It is a "good hold".

The hold prevents PSU from charging you tuition, and it is a reminder that senior auditors must work with the SALC office every term to get registered for courses.

The hold will remain on your account as long as you audit classes through SALC.
