Advising Contacts

Lower Division Students

Lower Division (Freshman and Sophomore) students can meet with the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science (MCECS) advisors. You can find more information about advising and scheduling an appointment by visiting their website

Upper Division (Junior and Senior) Students

Students admitted to ECE's upper division can meet with the ECE Undergraduate Faculty Advisor, Dr. Melinda Holtzman.

Please direct general questions to eceinfo@pdx.edu. If you have more specific or technical questions, please book an advising appointment with Dr. Holtzman here

Postbac Students

Dr. Holtzman also advises students who already have a bachelors degree in another field, and who are now seeking a bachelors in electrical or computer engineering. Postbac students who are interested in skipping a second bachelors and going directly into the masters program should review the bridge program page's information and start by filling out the questionnaire linked on that page.

Override Requests

Please visit our override request page if you are getting a prerequisite or restricted program error when trying to register. If it is another type of hold you can find information on what it is for and who to contact on myPSU when you attempt to register.

University Studies

Students transferring to PSU with 30 or more credits should consult the College's transfer student general education guide for more information on AL/SS requirements and whether or not you will be required to take the SINQ courses described below.

EC 314U:  Private and Public Investment Analysis is a required course for students seeking a bachelors in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.  It is recommended that students plan to take a junior cluster that includes this course in order to save time and money. Students who are required to take a Sophomore Inquiry (SINQ) course should take one of the following:

  • UNST 220:  Understanding Communities
  • UNST 222:  Design Thinking/Innovation/Entrepreneurship
  • UNST 239:  Knowledge, Values, and Rationality

These SINQ courses will lead to these Junior Clusters, which all include EC 314U:

You may not need to take SINQ courses or Junior Cluster courses Depending on whether you are a transfer student or postbac. Every bachelors-seeking student will have to take EC 314U, however. Please speak with an advisor if you are not sure what is required for your degree.

MECOP

Details on MECOP program are available on their website. Participation by eligible students is strongly encouraged. Further details can be obtained from ECE Undergraduate Advisor, Dr. Holtzman.

I am an international student - can I participate in MECOP?

This is possible subject to the requirement that the student maintain full time status, i.e. 12 credits. Please be aware, however, that some of the participating companies will not hire foreign nationals. This may limit your chances of being accepted into the program.

Upper Division Admissions

Before students can begin taking 300 level ECE courses, they must be admitted to the program and satisfy the course prerequisites.

  • The application deadline for admission to the program during fall term is April 15.
  • If you are not a current PSU student, please apply to PSU before you apply for admission to our program.
  • The application and a link to to the Bulletin for a full description of the requirements are on the Maseeh College’s website.
