What is Multicultural Graduation?

Multicultural Graduation is an annual Cultural Resource Centers ceremony that honors diversity and celebrates cultural traditions by creating a student-centered inclusive space to celebrate the graduation of multicultural students. The ceremony includes student speakers, a keynote speaker, and a post-ceremony dessert mixer. Multicultural Graduation is DIFFERENT than PSU's Commencement. **Check out Pictures & Video from the 2018 ceremony!**

Who participates in Multicultural Graduation?

Often, students who frequent the Cultural Resource Centers, our events, or use services from Diversity & Multicultural Student Services and International Student Services participate in this ceremony. However, any Portland State University student who is graduating between January 1st, 2019 and January 1st, 2020 can participate in Multicultural Graduation (Graduate students included!) Please note, space is limited.

CLOSED - Student Speaker Application (due April 22)

Each year, Multicultural Graduation features one domestic and one international student speaker (both must be participating in that year's Multicultural Graduation).  Guests of these speakers are awarded special reserved seating. Watch last year's speeches here! Questions? Contact Pedro S. Torres at

  • Student speakers will deliver a 5 minute speech that discusses:
  • The Student's Experiences at PSU
  • The values of the Cultural Resource Centers: We honor diversity, explore social justice issues, celebrate cultural traditions, and foster student identities, success and leadership.
  • The 2019 Multicultural Graduation theme: "Dare to Dream" Despite all of our adversities, we have dared to dream. These dreams were birthed from the strength and resilience of our ancestors, our communities, our families-- these dreams have been birthed from the strength of us. Every dream finds their roots in the mind, the heart, the soul, and the spirit. To dream takes courage, to dream is brave. With love and with hope we actualize our dreams to create a future where we all can dare to dream.
