Summer Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF)

The Summer Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF), is hosted by CIMR every September. Students from several programs are invited to present. Faculty, staff, post docs, and professionals from the scientific community are invited and encouraged to be SRS judges. Everyone on and off campus is invited to attend SRS and learn from the student presenters.

SURF provides a unique opportunity for PSU students across several undergraduate programs to present their summer research to peers, professors, research lab colleagues, and the PSU community.

Students from programs like URISE, BUILD, EXITO, PROA, and PSU REU’s deliver poster presentations, oral presentations, and engage in Q&A sessions with instructors and peers. This experience helps students develop presentations for broad audiences and supports their learning in developing and demonstrating science communication skills.

Past SURF Events

Historically, SURF was named the Summer Research Symposium and was started in 2016 to serve the BUILD EXITO program. As the BUILD EXITO program comes to an end in 2024, CIMR has stepped into the role of hosting this annual event showcasing research conducted in the summer by undergraduate researchers.
