Innovation & Intellectual Property
Innovation & Intellectual Property (IIP) within Research & Strategic Partnerships serves as the technology transfer office for Portland State University. Since our opening in 2008, we have aided the success and external distribution of research projects from a wide range of PSU departments and disciplines, from engineering and chemistry to linguistics and environmental science. Our focus is on use and impact, and we use intellectual property as a tool to shape how PSU innovations are used and deployed in the wider community. When and where appropriate, we also use intellectual property to facilitate commercialization of PSU innovations.
IIP is responsible for administering the Oregon University System’s Intellectual Property Policies and for managing PSU’s intellectual property around innovations from research and other activities. We also provide support for any intellectual property related questions or concerns that arise around research contracts, relationships with external organizations, and internal intellectual property guidelines.
Our professional staff are available as a resource for faculty and research groups - both to answer questions and to help explore ways to expand the reach and impact of research results and innovations.
From departments across the university, PSU research faculty are generating innovations to effect positive change in the world. Learn more about these exciting innovations and the people behind them on our Innovation Profiles page.
For six years, Innovation & Intellectual Property has worked with PSU faculty and staff to maximize the impact of their projects. A new publication celebrating some of those projects is now available at IIP and online.
