Bookstore

You will find the books you need for your classes by visiting the Portland State University Bookstore either on campus or online. Regular business hours are Monday - Thursday 7:45 AM to 7:00 PM, Friday 7:45 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Campus Public Safety Office

Campus Safety officers are empowered to enforce state laws and university regulations. Officers patrol the campus in marked patrol vehicles as well as on bicycle and foot. Feel free to call them whenever they can of services to you. Office located at Shattuck Hall, RM 148. EMERGENCY 503-725-4404. Non-Emergency 503-725-4407. Administrative Hours: Monday 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday - Friday 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Saturday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Sunday 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Career Center

PSU Career Center assists Portland State University students and alumni with career development and job search needs. In addition, the Career Center teaches students and alumni how to write resumes, interview, and conduct effective job searches.

Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC)

The Center for Student Health and Counseling is located at 1880 SW 6th Ave. Appointments for medical or counseling services can be made by calling the clinic at 503-725-2800, or by coming in and speaking with one of the receptionists. Hours of operation during the academic year: Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please visit their website for more information.

Child Development and Family Services

Student Parent ServicesASPSU Children's Center, provides Portland State University students with short hour child care, and The Helen Gordon Child Development Center, provides full and part time child care.

Disability Resource Center

The Disability Resource Center, located in 435 Smith Memorial Student Union, provides counseling, advocacy, educational training, and a number of different accommodations for PSU students with disabilities. Please visit their website for more information.

Funding

Portland State University offers numerous opportunities for graduate student funding including: assistantships, fellowships, scholarships, and financial aid. Students seeking fellowships should contact their department to learn of available positions.

Graduate Student Computer Lab

The Instructional Development Support Center in Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU) 18 is a computer lab dedicated to Faculy, Staff, and Graduate Students. You can reach them at 503-725-9111. Their hours are listed below.

Monday-Thursday: 9:00AM - 9:00PM
Friday: 9:00AM - 6:00PM
Saturday: 10:00AM - 4:00PM
Sunday: 10:00AM - 2:00PM

Group Therapy

The Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) will be offering group counseling for graduate students. The Graduate Student Group will meet during Fall term on Tuesdays, either at 3pm or 4pm (time is flexible depending on student availability). Please call SHAC at 503-725-2800 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Housing Options

University Housing at Portland State University is convenient, comfortable, and a great way to meet other PSU students and get involved on campus. Our 10 buildings offer more than a place to sleep or study -- they offer community, connections to PSU and Portland, and an ethic of care.

Intensive English Language Program (IELP)

Portland State University's Intensive English Language Program (IELP) offers intensive, academic-based English language (ESL) classes.

International Studies Program

The International Studies Program offers a B.A. degree in international studies based on an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides both a global perspective and a comprehensive view of a selected geographic region of the world.

Library Services

Portland State Library is integrated into Portland State University's instruction and scholarly fabric, and is actively involved with local, regional, and national user communities.

Medical Insurance

Students who have paid the Student Health Fee have the Basic Insurance Plan. You may also voluntarily enroll in the Supplemental Insurance Plan (a more traditional "major medical" insurance plan), for an additional fee. Please contact Wells Fargo Student Insurance Services at 1-800-853-5899 for all enrollment questions.

Multicultural Center

The Multicultural Center (MCC) provides a forum for collaborative cultural, educational, and social experiences at PSU and beyond.

Native American Student and Community Center

The Portland State University Native American Student and Community Center located on the Portland State University Campus strives to be a self-sustaining learning environment that encourages Self-determination and inspires cooperation and appreciation for all generations of all Nations; it is a gathering place based on traditional indigenous values to invigorate, promote, and engender health, goodwill, and community esteem.

Office of International Affairs

It is the goal at the Office of International Affairs to provide you with all of the information and support you need as you pursue your education at PSU. they will assist you with visas, information about taxes and health insurance, housing, and any cultural adjustments you man experience. Each week OIA sends out an e-newsletter to the entire international student population. The Organization of International Students, OIS, is the largest student group at PSU and plays a huge role in supporting and enhancing international students' transition to new culture.

Ombuds Office

Portland State University established its Ombuds Office in 1994 to serve as an independent resource to students, faculty, and staff who needed assistance in resolving problems and conflicts that arose within the campus community; seeking fair, equitable, and effective solutions to those problems through informal processes, including personal intervention and referrals to appropriate offices.

Orientation

Portland State University is committed to supporting a diverse population of incoming students and their families with transition into our community. Recreation

The mission of Campus Rec is to create an environment where quality recreation and wellness programs inspire, educate, and empower individuals to be positive contributors to the Portland State and global community. Our new facility located on Sixth and Montogery features: an Outdoor Program, including the equipment rental center; six lane fitness pool; two wood-floor gymnasiums; indoor soccer and multipurpose court; one-tenth mile indoor running track; 14-foot high bouldering wall; two versatile exercise and dance studios; large free-weight and exercise equipment area; over 50 cardiovascular machines; and numerous offices and meeting rooms.

Skills Enhancement and Tutoring Center

Student Activities and Leadership Programs

Student Activities and Leadership Programs’ mission is to enrich and integrate students’ leadership and academic experiences in order to educate students to be ethical, socially just, and civically engaged leaders on campus and in their larger communities.

Student Legal and Mediation Services (SLMS)

SLMS provides direct legal advice and representation, when appropriate, to students by experienced and qualified attorneys and legal staff to all eligible Portland State Students. Advice is given by appointment only, except in cases of genuine emergency. Call 503-725-4556 for an appointment, or visit Smith Memorial Student Union M 340. Hours of operations: Monday - Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Transportation and Parking Services

PSU Transportation and Parking Services coordinates and promotes transportation options for all PSU students. Regular business hours are Monday - Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with extended hours during the beginning of each term.

Being at the heart of downtown Portland, PSU presents students with a great opportunity to utilize one of the city's many public transportation services:

    Students commuting from the Columbia County cities of Scappoose, St.Helens, Columbia City, and Rainer should check out the Columbia County Rider transportation services website.

Women's Resource Center

Located at 1802 SW 10th (cross street is Montgomery), in the basement of Montgomery Hall, the Women's Resource Center provides a wealth of information, resources, encouragement and support for self-identified women. Please visit their website for more information.

Writing Center

The Writing Center Located in Cramer Hall, Rm. 188 is open to students, faculty, and staff of Portland State University, as well as member of the community. The Center will help you with all varieties of projects, including class assignments, resumes, application essays, presentations, and creative writing.
