THE DRYDEN DROP TOWER CHALLENGE
THE PROJECT
Dean Robert Dryden has led the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science through thirteen transformational years of growth and continued excellence. As a tribute to Dean Dryden’s dedication, leadership, and unwavering optimism we propose to design and install the Dryden Drop Tower at the Maseeh College. The Dryden Drop Tower, which will be used for NASA-funded research on fluid behavior in microgravity, will be located in the stairwell of the atrium of the Northwest Center for Engineering, Science and Technology. Maseeh College students will design the drop tower under the guidance of Dr. Mark Weislogel who designed a drop tower at NASA Glenn and has completed a preliminary conceptual design. The Dryden Drop Tower will be a highly visible facility for public demonstrations and outreach activities for K-12 students who may be potential Maseeh College students. The drop tower will be the most sophisticated and elegant of any similar facility at a university in the United States.
