Kicking-Off Digital Ecosystem Discovery Initiative

This month, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be starting a Digital Ecosystem Discovery project. The purpose of this work is to document the first iteration of a high level roadmap that will support efforts to modernize PSU’s ecosystem of communication and support tools. Examples of these systems include our student portal, internal facing websites/documentation, Customer Relations Management (CRM), support/ticketing tools, and more. Our intent is to learn how we can enhance our capabilities for effective communication with students, share information within and between campus units, and above all support each other and our students. 

This phase of the discovery has 5 goals: 

1. Describe the current landscape of tools used to communicate with and assist students, faculty, and staff.
2. Begin to inventory the gaps that exist and better understand the unmet, or insufficiently met, needs.
3. Identify potential redundancy and/or complexity in the current tool set.
4. Create a rough outline of what a cohesive Digital Ecosystem for communication and support tools could look like.
5. Be ready to begin demonstrating the early design of a potential Digital Ecosystem for feedback and iteration at the start of fall term.

To collect as much information as quickly as possible, we will be hosting facilitated workshops with partners from across campus. Each workshop cohort will meet twice over the summer to share their experiences and identify criteria for a successful suite of digital tools that could more effectively serve PSU. These sessions will be 90 minutes each and will be scheduled in advance to provide the most possible calendar flexibility during the busy travel season.

Once this discovery project is complete we will begin an iterative process of sharing our results and collaboratively evolving the digital ecosystem roadmap.
