Portland State University (PSU) is continuing to prepare for compliance with new Federal Digital Accessibility Requirements, which are now effective on April 26, 2027. Digital accessibility is a shared responsibility across the University, and creating accessible digital experiences ensures that all members of our community—including individuals with disabilities—can fully participate in the University's programs, services, and activities. Please see below for important updates and links to new and existing resources.

PSU has developed a Digital Accessibility Maturity Roadmap that outlines progress to date, and PSU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen our capacity to make digital resources accessible to individuals with disabilities. To support these efforts, PSU is continuing to invest in resources and tools for departments and employees, including access to software such as Foxit PDF Editor and the Panorama accessibility checker and remediation tool for Canvas.

Additionally, PSU has established the following definition for digital resources that fall in scope under the new accessibility requirements:

Digital resources that are shared as a part of PSU services, programs, and activities (i.e., any digital resources PSU employees have shared with the population to whom they provide services).

“Population” in this context may refer to students, employees, vendors, or members of the public, depending on whom your services, programs, and activities are meant to support.

PSU has created a number of support resources and templates, designed to assist divisions, departments, and employees as they continue their accessibility work, including:

In the coming months, campus leadership will develop more specific plans for their departments and work with their employees to advance digital accessibility in their units. Thank you for your continued commitment to creating accessible and inclusive digital environments for everyone at Portland State University.
