Open to all STEM undergraduate students, DISC (Discover Internships in Semiconductor Careers) is a 9-month paid internship with semiconductor partners in the Portland metro area that offers resume-building work experience,  professional development, and mentoring by peers, faculty, and industry members. DISC’s mission is to recruit and prepare cohorts of early undergraduate STEM students as they discover careers in the Portland Metro Area (PMA) semiconductor-microelectronics technology sector (semi-micro industry). DISC is open to all undergraduate STEM majors/minors.

DISC interns will receive:

  • Paid industry internship in the Portland Metro Area (9 months; 10-12 hours/week) that is during the academic school year
  • Professional development through regular workshops & cohort meetings in a cohort setting
Mentoring (peer, faculty, and industry mentors) and networking opportunities

  • "During my time at Analog Devices as part of the DISC Program, I gained invaluable hands-on experience in the semiconductor industry. Working alongside skilled engineers, I contributed to real-world projects that deepened my understanding of photolithography and process engineering. This opportunity not only strengthened my technical skills but also showed me the importance of collaboration and innovation in the technology sector. I am grateful to the DISC Program and Analog Devices for helping me build a strong foundation in engineering and for supporting my growth as a future leader in the semiconductor industry."
  • “The DISC Program has been a pivotal part of my technical and professional development. For a first-year initiative, I was genuinely impressed by the program’s structure, maturity, and the thoughtfulness behind its design. The mentors were knowledgeable, approachable, and clearly invested in our success."
  • "Through DISC, I gained hands-on experience in real-world semiconductor research and advanced microscopy—opportunities that helped me grow in both skill and confidence. The 9-month program was intense and demanding, but it pushed me to grow as a professional and prepared me to contribute to Oregon’s expanding advanced manufacturing and technology sectors.
  • "Programs like DISC are a gem—rare but incredibly valuable. They deserve recognition and support for the way they invest in local talent and prepare students for high-skill, high-demand industries. Initiatives like DISC are exactly what Oregon needs to strengthen its innovation economy.”
  • "DISC has allowed me to observe and prepare for an industry environment before graduation. I have learned what skills are necessary beyond what I learn in my classes, and have been able to develop these in an internship setting to prepare for a career in the growing semiconductor industry. The DISC program has helped me with professional development, building relationships, and identifying how to quickly progress after graduation to use my degree effectively. The pay has made this something I can afford to spend my time on to pay my bills, and the part time commitment means that I can continue my degree while working this internship. I did not have another viable internship pathway outside of DISC without delaying my graduation, and I know there are many students like me who are eager for this unique opportunity."
