The oddity of “I’m not racist, but...."
What I can do is what I have been doing in the last few weeks. I think before I speak in reference to [someone] non-white. I mention to my friend the oddity of the “I’m not racist, but—” statement she makes.

If it is a person that you want to invest some time in you can respond with "That's a very interesting statement; tell me more," and calmly let the speaker talk himself into ridiculousness.
