What is QBLS?
The Queer Black Liberation Series (QBLS) is an annual subprogram of the PSU Queer Students of Color Program. QBLS is a 3-event series and happens once in the fall, in the winter, and in the spring. These events focus on the experiences and the beauty of Black trans and queer identities at PSU and in the wider community, local and afar.
For the 2020-21 school year, the first event occurs in November to correspond with Transgender Day of Remembrance and highlights the Black trans community. The November event is open to the wider community. The second event will happen in February to correspond with Black Futures Month and Black Love Day. The February event is an identity-centered space. The third event falls in June and will correspond with Pride month and the Juneteenth holiday. The June event is a community space.
Goals of QBLS:
1) To build, bridge, and strengthen the Black trans and queer community.
2) To foster an environment of learning and sharing knowledge.
3) To celebrate and uplift our intersecting identities.
4) To celebrate our diversity and our differences.
5) To create leadership opportunities for students.
6) To connect with the larger QT/BIPOC communities.
