Starting January 1, Portland State took an important step toward reorienting the university’s administrative structure to better serve our students. We did this by uniting all of our student-facing services under a single unit: the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA). As part of that change, the portfolio of student support services that existed within Global Diversity and Inclusion, including multicultural student services and student retention programs, moved to the Office of Academic Affairs; the Office of Equity and Compliance transitioned to a newly created Office of Equity, Compliance & Internal Audit, and a new, university-wide Chief Diversity Officer position was created, reporting directly to the President’s Office and working with departments across campus.
Portland State University (PSU) seeks a visionary and strategic leader to serve as Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). Reporting directly to the President, the CDO will be responsible for providing leadership, vision, and strategic direction for enhancing the innovativeness, participation and success of all members of the university community. This critical role will focus on developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to advance a culture of fairness, belonging, and respectful dialogue across all dimensions of difference. The CDO will serve as a principal advisor to the President and senior leadership on all matters related to fostering a campus culture where all individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. This executive will play an important role in implementing the University’s new strategic plan, Future in Focus, and advancing PSU’s mission of inclusive student success, academic innovation, and regional impact.
