As we hit our February stride I wanted to update you on our strategic planning process and invite you, or perhaps more accurately urge you, to attend one of the three engagement forums that we are hosting this month to get your input.
The forums cap our efforts to get crisp on our values so that we can produce a mission and vision statement that aligns with the core values that will carry Portland State into the future.
At each event, community members will learn what strategic planning means for PSU, then gather in small groups with fellow students, staff, faculty, and community members to discuss what makes PSU special and how we can better live up to the values we hold as a community.
We’ll also hear about the key themes that emerged from the Heart of PSU survey and get input from participants on how we can operationalize our values based on how each of us experience PSU and our students on a day to day basis.
As we navigate these discussions and begin to envision the future of our university, your leadership is not just encouraged — it is essential. The experiences, opinions, and aspirations you make space for sharing and listening to will serve as building blocks for the strategic planning process.
The February forums aren’t the only opportunity you’ll have to provide input on the strategic planning process, but they come at an important juncture as the steering and working committees begin to refine their focus on what future students will need from this institution and and the strategic imperatives that will be our guide for bridging where PSU is now to where we need to be to meet those needs.
The strategic imperatives, which will be refined by campus input, will be prioritized by the executive council and presented to the Board of Trustees in June. What follows will be the invigorating work of implementing our vision.
